24/09/2009 5:58:00 PM
On Sunday, 18-year-old Cooma cyclist Nick Corr completed a gruelling 4,100km team bike ride across Australia when he reached Elouera Beach Cronulla.
Nick is the youngest person to ever take part in the ‘Bike for Bibles’ event which has celebrated its 25 year anniversary this year. The eldest was event co-ordinator Jim Blaxland, who is 66
The event saw a team of cyclists leave Perth on August 17 and ride to Sydney stopping in South Australia on the way over then up through Yass and Goulburn on their way to Sydney.
Each cyclist had a fundraising target, raising money for Australian projects including the provision of chaplains for the Australian Defence Force, emergency services, prisons and hospitals.
The riders helped to raise more than $100,000 for various charities. The ride took in amazing areas including Ceduna, Streaky Bay, Port Augusta, Burra, Mildura, Young, Yass and Goulburn.
The riders stayed with locals along the way, while local churches, organised barbecues and events as the riders came through their town

It has taken a while to appear, but in this week’s copy of the Southern Gazette, a community newspaper has published an article on the Perth to Sydney riders. The photographer attended the send off at Ascot and took the group shot.

Fellow Travellers
When we arrived in Balladonia we came across someone else on a major cycling excursion. This makes ours appear nothing. A German woman Dorothee Fleck is essentially travelling around the world with all her possessions on her bike. It was a hybrid bike with custom frames added to support the required paniers. Looked real heavy to us. She had started the Australian leg in Darwin and gone anticlockwise from there. Including the European and Asian legs she has done about 40,000km so far!!! This appears to be the second such trip she’s done and when I asked if she was going to South America she said "Another time".
Back on Air
We’ve been out of wireless broadband coverage since leaving Norseman across the Nullarbor. Now that we are back into civilisation in Ceduna, coverage should be right from now on. After travelling down to Streaky Bay tomorow, we have a rest day, so I should be able to cattch up on some of what’s been missed.
One good thing about being away from civilisation is that, since there are no church halls, school halls, recreation centres etc for us to stay in, we have had to stay in motel units and therefore had a proper bed to sleep in. Now its back to the air mattresses etc.
