Happy Australia Day!  Christmas and New Year are a distant memory. Now is the time for some not so serious bike riding…

Planned rides (put them on your calendar):

  1. Another one day ride on Sat 27 March – around 60-70k
  2. Weekend ride to York/Northam/Toodyay 17/18 April – staying overnight in York.
  3. Ladies weekend ride 1/2 May – lots of coffee and cake I’m sure.
  4. One week Wildflower Ride 500-600k, finishing in Moora for the Annual Show. Leaving on Monday, 13 Sep.

Will need to get registrations for the weekend ride soon as accommodation is limited. Stay posted.

BFB Victoria Training Rides

January 25, 2010 · Filed Under 2010, Australia, Victoria · Comment

Ever wanted to join a Bike for Bibles Victoria ride but felt that you could never do it ?

The training rides are not too scary and are achievable. We always ride at an easy pace for ALL the cyclists. We normally do rides over increasing distances on four alternate Saturdays. The main aim is to get our bodies to adapt to more efficiently convert the food we have eaten and the energy stored in our fat cells into km on the bike. We also improve our muscle endurance.

Preliminary training dates are:

  • 30th Jan
  • 13th Feb
  • 27th Feb
  • 13th Mar

NEXT STEPS: Do some cycling in the next 6 weeks. Try riding 20 – 40 km. A good ride is from St
Kilda to Black Rock return, or do some rides on some of the many Bike Trails in Melbourne.

Send me an email to let me know you are interested swilson@biblevic.com.au.

Do something for
the Lord’s work and
have a great time
yourself as well.

Lhasa to Kathmandu 2010

January 25, 2010 · Filed Under 2010 · Comment

A Bike for Bibles ride is being planned from Lhasa to Kathmandu from 20/08/10 to 14/09/10. Hopefully as we face the coming year, some of our plans can become firmer. For this ride to happen, we need a minimum of 10 people to commit to doing it – with an upper limit of 25. At this stage we are planning for Glenn to be the designated Australian leader, liaising with the local Nepali and Tibetan leaders who will accompany us. This reduced the cost per person to $5550 for 10 – 19 riders, or $5390 for 20 – 25 riders.

Glen and I are hoping that we can get enough people to commit to this ride so we can actually plan for it to go ahead. The cutoff date to get the threshold of 10 is MID-MARCH.

If you would like to book in the ride with a deposit, please contact Dave who is the contact at RAW Travel, who have been organising this ride for years – dave.rawtravel@gmail.com – he will keep us informed as each one books in.

If you would like to talk it over more before committing to it, please contact either Glenn (Ph 0243852240, email rev@isage.net.au) or myself by return email (more reliable than phone) or Ph 0243843669 (sometimes home at sociable hours for phone calls, but messages always taken).

I have attached some photos that Dave has sent me to illustrate the terrain and surface. Most of the road is sealed, except the last section to Everest, which is quite rocky, needing mountain bike. The rest could be done on road bike or hybrid, leaving the Everest leg to be done in the bus, or hiring a mountain bike for that section (still expensive), or sharing a MTB with someone else in relay stints. There are no really steep sections, as the road was built for underpowered chinese trucks.

I am also still exploring options to connect up with local Christians in Kathmandu and even Tibet if possible, which would add to the special nature of the trip.

Hope to ride with you all,

Barry
